Family Day Care Educators

Title Role: expression of interest
Job Type: self-employed
Location: NSW wide - metro, regional or remote

What experience or qualifications do I need to become an educator?

Experience working in education and care is not essential. You may have other skills and experience which would support your work as an educator, however you must be prepared to attend professional development training throughout your career as an educator to help you understand and apply the theories of childhood development and children’s learning.

As part of the National Quality Framework, the ‘Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations’ determine that FDC educators must have:

  • A minimum qualification or be enrolled and working towards the Certificate III in Education and Care. Further information on obtaining this qualification can be sought through our in-house Registered Training Organisation ‘PEAK Training’ nswfdc.org.au/peak-training.
  • A First Aid Certificate which includes training on Anaphylaxis and Asthma management and CPR.
  • A Working with Children Check for yourself and any person over the age of 18 years who resides at your home.

FDC services may have individual requirements or expectations of people wishing to register with their service as an educator. The FDC service will discuss these with you and also inspect your home to provide guidance on its suitability.
